Decisions regarding current operations related to COVID-19
March 19, 2020
Dear Parkview Huntington Family YMCA Member,
For the past several days, the state of Indiana has taken significant steps to keep the public safe as the Coronavirus (COVID-19) begins to spread. In order to create more social distancing by cutting off potential gathering places, Governor Holcomb ordered the closure of all bars, nightclubs, and restaurants (except takeout/delivery) on Monday morning.
In order to best ensure the health of our entire Y community, we have decided to temporarily close our facility to the public effective Friday, March 20th through March 31st, tentatively. The decision to temporarily close our facility was made to best ensure the safety of everyone in our community.
Your YMCA has been a pillar in the Huntington community for over 100 years, throughout both good and challenging times, surviving world wars, financial crises, and a multitude of recessions and down turns. Your membership to the YMCA is meaningful because you are doing something good for yourself and you’re joining a community of caring people who help us provide safe, fun and enriching programs for Huntington County.
I want to be transparent about membership dues. Of course we will offer membership holds for those who are concerned financially. If you do not request a hold, your membership dollars will be used to continue to support the YMCA and the good work that we do in our community. If you would like to place a hold on your membership, please call between the hours of 10am-2pm Monday, Wednesday, or Friday. We will place your membership on hold month by month and there will be no fee to restart.
During this brief temporary closure, you can expect regular updates from us via email, our website, and our social media channels: Facebook, Twitter, Instagram. We are working on several virtual channels that will be provided to you to help you stay active while staying safe in your home. Check our Parkview Huntington YMCA website to access these free workouts and fun activities for all age groups.
We will continue to work with the health department and local physicians to determine what other actions, if any, would be prudent on our part and when it will be safe to reopen our facilities.
Thank you for your patience and understanding as we navigate this evolving and challenging situation. We look forward to returning to business as usual as soon as possible.
Stay safe, stay informed, and take care of each other,
Parkview Huntington Family YMCA
We understand that you may have questions about the temporary closure of our YMCA facilities:
When will the Y open again?
Our tentative date at this time will be April 1st, pending the advice and guidance of our local and state government officials. The Y will reassess the situation and will update members no later than March 30th regarding the status of facilities and programming from that point forward.
Have any Parkview Huntington YMCA members tested positive for COVID-19?
No. At this time, we are not aware of any staff, volunteers, members or participants who have tested positive for COVID-19.
What is the Y doing during the closure?
We are working with our partners in healthcare, Parkview Huntington Hospital to provide childcare for emergency response teams and healthcare workers.
In addition, we will be conducting our facility maintenance projects that typically take place in August. Items such as pool maintenance, painting, indoor and outdoor cleanup, as well as deep cleaning and disinfecting our facility.
We are also sending our displaced staff members to assist other not-for-profits fulfill their staffing needs.
