Sign up and join the fun at the 5th Annual Sock Soaker!
The Parkview Huntington Family YMCA 5th Annual Sock Soaker returns to Lake Clare on Saturday, May 11th! There is still time to sign up to race or volunteer!
“The Y is excited to return to this great setting for our annual event that promotes fun, fitness and philanthropy” says YMCA race coordinator, Vanessa Macias-Hannie.
A 3-4 mile multi-faceted obstacle course race, the Sock Soaker appeals to individuals and teams of any skill level. This year’s race will again utilize the obstacle course at Lake Clare Fitness Park as well as trails and paved roads in the vicinity.
The event will have two components: a timed, competitive individual race and a fun, untimed, less competitive team race. Racers in the competitive category will face the Fitness Park obstacle course along with running on trails and paved areas plus other fitness challenges. Prizes will be awarded to the top three male and female finishers, as well as age group winners.
The team category will incorporate some of the Fitness Park obstacles with individuals on each team encouraged to attempt each obstacle. Groups such as corporate teams, school sports teams and church/youth groups are encouraged to participate.
“The Sock Soaker will be fun and accessible to everyone,” said Macias-Hannie.
Funds raised from the Sock Soaker benefit the YMCA’s annual campaign for financial assistance. Last year the Parkview Huntington Family YMCA awarded over $50,000 in scholarship to the Huntington community. The annual campaign enables the YMCA to not turn anyone away from membership or programs based on their ability to pay the full rates.
Racers and volunteers can register here and can follow the event on the Parkview Huntington Family YMCA Facebook page, “5th Annual YMCA Sock Soaker.” Race shirts are included in the registration cost.
